![]() ![]() The only two that remain are the DC-3 and Piper J3. Several vintage aircraft have been eliminated from this release. This is an evolutionary step in programming from the APL and ABL languages used in previous editions of the program. ![]() Dynamic missions can be created with control over many variables including AI air traffic, sound files, and more. There are now more than 50 missions with a few extra in the Acceleration Pack. The sound system has been totally upgraded with support for surround sound (5.1). The Tower Controller feature lets users take local control of the ATC during multiplayer games. They can choose to be the pilot, copilot or air traffic control. Multiplayer functionality has been redone with a new feature called shared skies, which lets multiple users share the same aircraft cockpit. Weather systems have been upgraded including better models for visibility. Aircraft systems including fire protection, CPU, and passenger advisory sign indicators have all been improved. The aircraft selection has been improved including a new Airbus A321.

![]() ![]() PC hardware is nice, but it’s not much use without innovative software. And as mentioned previously, double-tapping the back button on a Surface Pen opens the Snipping Tool. On the Dell Latitude tablet, you use the Power Button and Volume Down buttons simultaneously you might have to experiment or dig into documentation if you have a less-popular tablet model. Older Surface tablets used the Fn-Windows Key-Spacebar combination on their attached keyboards, and some had you press the power button and a hardware Windows button simultaneously. The result of shooting this way is the same as hitting the Windows Key–PrtSc combination: An image is saved to your Pictures>Screenshots folder. Be careful to press the buttons simultaneously, or else you’ll end up turning off the screen. ![]() On the Surface Pro 8 and most of its predecessors, press the Volume Up and Power buttons at the same time to take a screenshot. The on-screen touch keyboard has no PrtSc key. Taking screenshots on Surface tablets is different from doing it on a PC, unless you have a keyboard attached. If you change your mind after hitting Windows Key-Shift-S and don’t want to shoot the screenshot, the Esc key backs you out of the process. If you want to use a timer before snapping the screen, simply type Snipping in the Start menu and open the program window, rather than using the keyboard shortcut. I also wish the Snipping Tool gave access to previous screenshots (as the OneDrive option above and the SnagIt option below do). As it is now, you have to take the image into Paint, Paint 3D, or some other image-editing program to get this simple capability. I’d like to be able to, for example, choose a 16:9 widescreen size, and I doubt I’m alone in that. One beef I have with this utility’s crop feature is that it doesn’t offer aspect-ratio options. A Share button lets you send the image using Windows 11's standard share panel, and you can also print the image or open it in another app from the menu options. Most importantly, you can save the screenshot and any edits using the 3.5-inch floppy disk icon (some visual metaphors never die). Use the Windows Key–PrtSc Keyboard Shortcut It's also handy when I don't have time to save an image file in a separate step, such as during a live presentation. I always use this method when I think I may need to use the screenshot as an image file rather than just pasting it somewhere. ![]() You can also access it from any device where you can access OneDrive (there are clients for every platform). Instead, an image file is automatically created in the OneDrive folder of your choice, which appears on the desktop just like a local file. That one simple check box changes everything about PrtSc: You no longer have to open an image app or paste from the clipboard. Choose Settings and then the Backup tab of the dialog box and check Automatically Save Screenshots I capture to OneDrive. Here's how to set it up:Ĭlick or right-click on OneDrive’s cloud icon on the right side of the taskbar. ![]() I’m including this method separately from the standard PrtSc option because the result is so different and saves you the extra steps of opening an app and pasting from the clipboard. You can also use PrtSc in combination with OneDrive to automatically create an image file of your screenshot in OneDrive. Any possible difference on speed with different layers included or excluded and using or not using the GPUs was impossible to gauge. Output processing took about 2 seconds click to finish. With the heal layer inactive then both GPUs show an active spike in operation and the CPU also shows a spike but lower than when the GPU's are showing nothing happening. With both layers active there seemed to be relatively little GPU activity and most processing seem to be activated via the CPU. ![]() I repeated the output a few times with and adjustment layer, the heal layer and the layers in different orders. The recipe as set produces a tiff file for print - the output file is 85Mb. I used a large sample file and added a few (about 20) entirely random heal actions - quite large areas healed. Hardly surprising if it is processing something like 30 frames a minute. Working with video (or, presumably, games that are basically artificial video) one can monitor both GPU devices and observe an apparently far higher work rate. I suspect that the basic assessment for most activities was that the Intel (always used anyway for drawing screen changes made by the applications) and CPU combination was, for the needs I was presenting, the fastest combination anyway. I have noticed on my recently acquired Win10 Notebook with T2000 that even the built in Intel OpenCL processing offers enough performance to be included in the configuration alongside the Quadro, though it took a bit of setting up and reconfiguring to actually get the applications to use the T2000 rather then just the Intel. There is potential for confusion and unexpected results. She’s certainly a powerful force, but most players would be better off starting with Carol. Beyond turning into a lethal cyclone, Sash can also use her locks as a weapon, whipping foes into submission. Although Sash is the obvious star of the game, her Sparkster-esque ability to rocket around levels has the tendency to push her into peril. At the start of the game, players have a choice between the lavender-complected water-dragon Sash Lilac and her impetuous feline friend, Carol Tea. While games of yore typically had uncomplicated move sets and printed instruction booklets, Freedom Planet has neither, leaving it to players to master the navigational methods of each of the three playable characters. For those with concern for a rag-tag team of affable animals and the chase after an energy-producing Kingdom Stone, there’s Classic Mode (if they don’t feel like skipping cutscenes) which forgoes the plot for a non-stop thrill ride of platforming mixed with pugnaciousness. For those that appreciate a bit of narrative-based impetus, Freedom’s Planet‘s Adventure Mode indulges, issues bits of exposition much like Sonic Adventure. Personality is better articulated through the game’s adorable sprite animations, where characters go bug-eyed when pushed into strenuous situations or perform a jubilant handstand after conquering one the game’s protracted stages. Although the game complements its text-driven dialog with serviceable voice-overs, it’s hardly needed. Like it’s source material, Freedom Planet‘s charm emanates from it’s anthropomorphic cast of characters. Where corporate groupthink might be blamed for decisions like focus-group fashioned sidekicks or episodic delivery methods, indie studio GalaxyTrail has deftly stripped away the feature-bloat excess, delivering an experience which feels like finding the unbeknownst warhead that could have conceivably tipped the balance in the fifth-generation console war. Recreating the vibrant hues and parallax-scrolling backdrops of a late 90’s action-platformer, the title adds a dose of combat-driven physicality to ensure that it doesn’t feel like a toothless copycat. Pleasingly, the recent Steam release of Freedom Planet strikes a virtuous balance. In retrospect, the publisher spent the succeeding decades trying to duplicate its Sonic-era glory, an endeavor as awkward as a middle-aged man trying to rekindle his high-school swagger. ![]() From Sonic Team’s eponymous series, as well as their work on Ristar, to Treasure’s string of stirring hits- Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy, Alien Soldier and Light Crusader, players saw a succession of truly superlative titles.Īnd while the following generation’s shift to polygon-pushing hardware produced a number of memorable games, few of these would match the charm and effervescent vitality demonstrated by SEGA’s sixteen-bit output. There’s a very good reason why the Genesis/Mega Drive is so revered by retro gamers: the console played host to several prodigious programing teams. ![]() |
